Greece - a few words about the most interesting places

Athens, the seat of the mythological gods, attracts millions of tourists with its cultural and historical wealth. The Acropolis, which towers over the city, is one of the main attractions of this fascinating place. Moreover, almost 20 per cent of all the Blue Flag beaches in Greece are explicitly located on the Halkidiki peninsula. The beaches here are undoubtedly among the cleanest and most beautiful in the world. The small island of Elafonisi in southwest Crete, separated from the main island by a lagoon, is a sight often seen on postcards. No wonder this picturesque part of the island is breathtaking. Meteors, from the Greek word meteoros, mean „floating in the air” Especially at dawn, during the falling mist, they give the impression of rocks floating in the air. It is worth remembering that this unusual place is on the World Heritage List UNESCO. Mykonos, like Santorini, belongs to the Cyclades and stands out for its white and blue buildings, which make it a truly photogenic place. The former mecca of the hippies is still one of the most popular islands, especially among young people. Moreover, Rhodes should definitely be on the list of those who want to visit Greece. The island is, in fact, extremely rich in history and has numerous monuments. The mediaeval town, surrounded by a crescent-shaped fortress, is definitely extremely fascinating. If you are planning a trip to Thessaloniki, you should allow about 3 days. The city is perfect for a long weekend trip. Although Thessaloniki is the second largest city in Greece, it is quite small and therefore ideal for multi-day trips. Samos, an island off the Turkish coast, is less well known and therefore undoubtedly ideal for those seeking authenticity and tranquillity. The birthplace of the eminent mathematician Pythagoras has much to offer. There are also two major towns on Santorini – Oia and Fira. Both towns are equally beautiful and are situated on a picturesque caldera (cliff). There are many restaurants, caf茅s, hotels and boutiques in the towns. In the north of Zakynthos is the port of Skinari, which is the starting point for excursions to the Blue Caves. Do not miss the opportunity to swim in the natural arches of these sea caves.
